Die Vorlesungen und Weiterbildungskurse des NADEL sind ausschliesslich für Studierende des MAS in Entwicklung und Zusammenarbeit und für Fachkräfte der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit (EZA) mit mindestens 2 Jahren Berufserfahrung in der EZA und einem von der ETH anerkannten Abschluss auf Masterstufe zugänglich. Doktorierende, die sich mit empirischer Forschung im EZA-Bereich befassen, können "sur Dossier" zugelassen werden.

KurzbeschreibungThe course provides a deeper understanding of the methodological foundations of results-oriented planning and steering of development projects. Together with the participants, we reflect on the situation-specific application of instruments for project planning and the development of a monitoring system, which makes it possible, in complex contexts, to comprehensibly adapt and steer projects.
LernzielParticipants are able to describe the project planning process using appropriate technical terminology, to make a comprehensive description of the initial situation and to initiate the elaboration of an intervention logic. Participants are also able to design monitoring processes and derive steering measures during project implementation.

KurzbeschreibungThe course enables participants to understand the significance of the engagement of civil society organisations in policy processes in order to overcome exclusion and foster voice. The course acquaints participants with concepts and practice of civil society participation in shaping policies at micro and macro level and provides practical tools for influencing political processes.
LernzielRecognizing that development is inherently political, this course covers political processes and how they intertwine with the goals and strategies of various agents in international cooperation. It discusses the significance and implications of civil society’s efforts to foster voice and inclusion. The course provides a nuanced understanding of different strategic options and approaches to contribute to policy processes and offers tools that have proven to be effective in practical development cooperation work. It provides an opportunity for participants to apply concepts related to the strengthening of civil society to their projects and case studies.

KurzbeschreibungThe course examines forms, causes and effects of fraud and corruption in developing countries. Participants receive an introduction to the main concepts and mechanisms of prevention, detection, investigation and sanctioning. By using practical examples, the course prepares participants for dealing with fraud and corruption related issues in the context of development projects.
LernzielParticipants are able to describe and reflect on different forms, causes and effects of fraud and corruption in the context of development cooperation. Based on common concepts and mechanisms of the international community they are able to apply and differentiate prevention, detection, investigation and sanctioning of fraud.

KurzbeschreibungThe course aims at strengthening the capacity in portfolio management for VET, skills development and active labor market policies. It deals with basic issues and challenges of Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Developing Countries. In view of the many of school leavers VET has to place itself between the contradicting intensions of quality education and short-term training interventions.
LernzielThe participants are able to
- Assess project proposals and ongoing project regarding their relevance and suitability in the specific country context
- Explain strengths and weaknesses of the opposing approaches "dual apprenticeship" and "competency based training" as well as synergies and incompatibilities between the two
- Describe the competent use of tools currently applied in VET

KurzbeschreibungQualitative research has much to offer to the practical work of development organizations. This course will provide an overview of the principles and practice of qualitative research and illustrate ways in which qualitative research can be incorporated into the programme cycle. Participants will learn to collect and analyse data, using qualitative methods.
LernzielThe course aims to demystify qualitative research and build the skills of development practitioners in using qualitative methods confidently, and to communicate findings to different audiences.

KurzbeschreibungStudierende des MAS ETH D&C absolvieren Projekteinsätze bei renommierten Organisationen in der internationalen Zusammenarbeit (IZA). Das Ziel besteht darin, einen klar definierten Auftrag zu erfüllen, die komplexe Arbeitsrealität der modernen IZA vor Ort kennen zu lernen und in diesem Umfeld Berufserfahrungen zu sammeln.
Die Dauer des Projekteinsatzes beträgt zwischen 8 und 10 Monaten.
Lernziel- Im Studiensemester erworbenes Wissens in einem konkreten Projektauftrag anwenden
- Die komplexe interdisziplinäre und interkulturelle Arbeitsrealität kennenlernen
- Erfahrung in der projektbezogenen Zusammenarbeit mit unterschiedlichen gesellschaftlichen Anspruchsgruppen sammeln
- Berufserfahrung in der internationalen Zusammenarbeit erwerben
Voraussetzungen / BesonderesFür die Durchführung der Einsätze arbeitet das NADEL mit rund 30 staatlichen und nichtstaatlichen Entwicklungsorganisationen zusammen. Voraussetzungen für den Antritt sind der erfolgreiche Abschluss des Studiensemesters, ausreichende Sprachkenntnisse (en; fr; es; je nach Einsatzland) und die medizinische Tropentauglichkeit. Die Kosten werden über ein Stipendium der Direktion für Entwicklung und Zusammenarbeit (DEZA) finanziert.
