636-0117-00 GMathematical Modelling for Bioengineering and Systems Biology
The lecture course will be offered as “inverted classroom”. Lecture videos, slides, and scripts will be made available via Moodle, and students are expected to watch the videos ahead of the lecture. The 45-minute in person lecture time serves to answer student question where necessary, and to discuss application examples with students to deepen their understanding of the material. Similarly, problem sheets and solutions will be made available ahead of the tutorial. The tutorials serve to address further questions. Remote participation is always possible. It is a new form of teaching. Feedback will be most welcome.

KurzbeschreibungBasic concepts and mathematical tools to explore biochemical reaction kinetics and biological network dynamics.
LernzielThe course enables students to formulate, analyse, and simulate mathematical models of biochemical networks. To this end, the course covers basic mathematical concepts and tools to explore biochemical reaction dynamics as well as basic concepts from dynamical systems theory. The exercises serve to deepen the understanding of the presented concepts and the mathematical methods, and to train students to numerically solve and simulate mathematical models.

Basic Concepts from Linear Algebra & Differential Equations Mathematical Methods: Linear Stability Analysis, Phase Plane Analysis, Bifurcation Analysis Dynamical Systems: Switches, Oscillators, Adaptation Signal Propagation in Signalling Networks Parameter Estimation
