Abstract
Key terms: Networked data, semantics and file formats
Learning objective
Module 3 provides the data-technical basis for digitally networked collaboration, enabling the participants to understand and evaluate the principles of data architecture, as well as details of file formats, attributes, servers and cloud-based systems.
Content
The way in which data are structured in a digitalised sector of industry has tremendous effects on the people involved and on the ways in which they work. Well-structured data are more easily interpreted by software, leading to shorter information exchange cycles and information analysis, and consequently affecting project processing. Poorly structured data and interfaces, on the other hand, lead in the long term to data losses and a need for costly reorganization work.
The module explains and positions currently familiar open data formats such as IFC, BCF and COBie.
Lecture notes
