Field Course IV: Non Alpine Field Course
The field course will take place in June 2021 (depending on the Corona-Situation)
Geological Mapping in the Jebel Akhdar window in Oman; unconformity between the Permian cover and the Proterozoic basement; excursion in the Sumail ophiolite.
Learning objective
Understanding of the pre-Alpine history of the Arabian Plate (southern margin of Tethys).
Content
Geological mapping in groups of 2 in Proterozoic and Palaeozoic sediments; distinguishing mappable formations and their description; sedimentological and structural analysis; visiting an ophiolite sequence; presentation and discussion of literature material related to the working area; reconstruction of the history of the area. Final group reports to be handed within the week 10-17 February in ZH.

Successful participation in Field Courses I-III and success to all courses of the Bachelor.
