AbstractThe Arabic reading course leads to A2.2/B1 level. In the course, participants extend their reading, speaking, grammar, morphology, and vocabulary skills – acquired in the previous courses (Arabic I-III) – by reading and discussing original Arabic texts. In addition, by reading key texts in translation, participants gain an overview of formative genres and topics in Arabic literature.
ObjectiveParticipants are able to discuss major Arabic literary works competently, understand opinions, and develop their own points of view. The focus is on speaking, reading comprehension, and listening comprehension at A2.2/B1 level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Participants are able to discuss – in the target language – the content of and background to more demanding Arabic texts and comprehend the reception of these texts in their culture of origin. They have completed the acquisition of basic Arabic grammar skills and can continue to develop their language skills independently with the help of grammar books. They have also become familiar with general knowledge common in the Arab world.
