AbstractThe lecture gives an introduction into the field of Mycology. It provides an overview of the fungal lifestyle.
ObjectiveAt the end of the course, the student is able to…

…recognize and explain the hallmarks of the fungal lifestyle.

…to explain the building plan of a fungal cells and mycelia and their various differentiations (morphology of fungi).
…to explain the structure of the fungal genomes and their protection mechanisms (genetics of fungi).
…to distinguish the different reproduction strategies of fungi and explain their function.
…to explain the correlation between nutrition mode and ecology of fungi including the various fungal symbioses and their evolution.
…name and explain examples for the application of fungi in food production and biotechnology.
