AbstractPrinciples and phenomena around radioactivity.
ObjectiveKnowledge of the most important phenomena in relation with radioactivity. Knowledge of the principles of radiation protection. Ability to judge dangerous situations in handling radioactive materials, geopolitically as well as locally at ones own working place.
ContentStructure and properties of atomic nuclei, mathematical description of the radioactive decay, decay types, interaction of radiation with matter, detectors for ionizing radiation, radiation protection, principles of isotope separation, nuclear power plants, major nuclear accidents.

Additional topics may be suggested by the students.

Stress is on chemical aspects of radioactivity and on radiation protection.
