AbstractThis course provides a broad introduction to flow cytometry. We will cover the working principles of cytometry instrumentation, and essential aspects of experimental design and data analysis. Fluorescence-based cytometry (conventional and full spectrum) as well as mass cytometry will be covered.

The format is a lecture course enriched by a visit to the ETH Flow Cytometry Core Facility.
Learning objectiveThe objective of this course is to provide participants with a strong understanding of the basic principles underlying flow cytometry, equipping them to be self-sufficient for the systematic design, execution and analysis of cytometry experiments.
ContentThe course is centered on explaining the working principles of cytometry instrumentation (conventional, full spectrum and mass cytometry) and associated data analysis. In detail, we will cover the following topics:
- Components of Flow Cytometry Instrumentation
- Signal processing
- Fluorochromes, compensation, and spectral unmixing
- Visualization, gating and analysis of data
- Fluorescent panel design
- Cytometry assays: immunophenotyping, cell signaling, etc.
- Cell sorting
- Mass cytometry
- Computational data analysis techniques
Lecture notesUpdated handouts will be provided during the class.
