Abstract	In this seminar students learn advanced techniques to support and to diagnose knowledge acquisition processes in school.
Learning objective	The main goals are: (1) You have a deep understanding about the cognitive mechanisms of knowledge acquisition. (2) You have a basic understanding about psychological test theory and can appropriately administer tests. (3) You know various techniques of formative assessment and can apply these to uncover students' misconceptions.

Abstract	Teaching is also a craft. In this lecture, students get to know and, wherever possible, also practice practical aspects of the teaching profession within the framework of relevant theories rom the Learning Sciences.
Learning objective	Students acquire basic knowledge and skills needed for planning, preparing, and implementing effective instruction. They can reflect and adapt these skills based on knowledge about findings from research in the learning sciences.
Content	We discuss characteristics of successful lessons and how to design such lessons by using curricula and lesson plans, teaching goals, classroom management, and a variety of teaching methods.
Lecture notes	The lecture comprises interactive parts where the participants elaborate and extend their knowledge and skills. Thus, there is no comprehensive written documentation of the lecture. The participants can download presentation slides, learning materials, and templates from "Moodle".
Literature	The necessary literature can be downloaded from "Moodle".
Prerequisites / Notice	The lecture EW2 can only be attended by students who already successfully completed the lecture Human Learning (EW1). There will be two independent lectures for different groups of students. You will get further information in an email at the beginning of the semester.

Abstract	Literature from learning sciences will be read and discussed. Research methods will be in focus. At the first meeting all participants will be allocated to working groups and two further meetings will be set up with the groups. In the small groups students will write critical short essays about the read literature. The essays will be presented and discussed in the plenum at the third meeting.

851-0242-09L	Student Research Projects: Practical Research on Learning and Instruction Number of participants limited to 20. Abstract	In teams, participants in this seminar conduct their own research project. Each team is advised by one of the researchers serving as lecturers in this course. Basic conceptual and methodological issues are the topic of a series of plenary meetings; however, the major part of the work is done in small-group meetings with the advising researcher, and in self-directed research projects.
Learning objective	The course is targeted at advanced students who have taken an interest in gathering practical research experience in the field of Learning & Instruction. In teams, students conduct their own research projects (on request, working alone is also possible); thus, the course requires a high amount of self-directed working. Students are personally advised, and supported in their research project, by one of the researchers serving as lecturers in this course. During the first half the semester, relevant methodological knowledge and skills are practiced during plenary meetings and in students` independent reading.
Prerequisites / Notice	The successful completion of EW1 and EW3 ist a precondition for taking this course. However, with agreement obtained from the lecturers in advance, students holding equivalent prior knowledge from other courses may also be eligible for this course.
