AbstractThis lecture gives an overview of the present research in the field of Astro-Particle Physics, including the different experimental techniques. In the first semester, main topics are the charged cosmic rays including the antimatter problem.
The second semester focuses on the neutral components of the cosmic rays as well as on some aspects of Dark Matter.
Learning objectiveThis lecture gives an overview of the present research in the field of Astro-Particle Physics, including the different experimental techniques. In the first semester, main topics are the charged cosmic rays including the antimatter problem.
The second semester focuses on the neutral components of the cosmic rays (very high energy gamma-rays and neutrinos) as well as on some aspects of Dark Matter.
Contenta) short summary about 'charged cosmic rays' (1st semester)
b) Very-High-Energy Astronomy:
- ongoing and near-future detectors for VHE gamma-rays
- possible production mechanisms for VHE gamma-rays
- galactical sources: supernova remnants, pulsar-wind nebulae, micro-quasars, etc.
- extragalactical sources: active galactic nucleii, gamma-ray bursts, galaxy clusters, etc.
- the gamma-ray horizon and it's cosmological relevance
c) Neutrino Astronomy:
- atmospherical, solar, extrasolar and cosmological neutrinos
- actual results and near-future experiments
d) Dark Matter:
- evidence for existance of non-barionic matter
- Dark Matter models (mainly Supersymmetry)
- actual and near-future experiments for direct and indirect Dark Matter searches
