AbstractMicroscopic analysis of plant material (pharmacopoeia). Chromatographic analysis of medicinal plants, extraction methods, qualitative/quantitative determination of medicinal plant constituents, isolation of natural products, identification/purity determination of herbal drugs and natural products by means of spectroscopic, chemical, and chromatographic methods.
Learning objectiveAbility to perform phytochemical work at the practical level, knowledge and understanding of the qualitative and quantitative methods available for the analytical characterization of medicinal plants and plant extracts. Understanding the physical, chemical, and chromatographic behaviour of different classes of natural products, such as, e. g., flavonoids. alkaloids, essential oils etc.
ContentMicroscopic analysis of plant material (in particular with reference to pharmacopoeia specifications). Chromatographic analysis of medicinal plants, different extraction methods, qualitative and quantitative determination of medicinal plant constituents, isolation of natural products, identification and purity determination of herbal drugs and natural products by means of physical, spectroscopic, chemical, and chromatographic methods.
