Sie konzentriert sich nicht nur auf stilistische Fragen der Landschaftsarchitektur, sondern auch auf anstehende Aufgaben wie Revitalisierung von Landschaften, Nachhaltigkeit etc. Vorgestellt werden Gestaltungsansätze, die sich kritisch mit überkommenen Naturbildern auseinandersetzen. | Voraussetzungen / Besonderes | Allgemeine Hinweise zur Prüfung: Bachelorstudierende: Als Grundlage für die Prüfungsvorbereitung dienen das in der Vorlesung vermittelte Wissen und die prüfungsrelevante Literatur, die der Lehrstuhl zur Verfügung stellt. Die Vorlesung ist als Jahreskurs angelegt. Da in der schriftlichen Sessionsprüfung Kenntnisse aus den beiden Vorlesungsreihen Landschaftsarchitektur I und II überprüft werden, wird unbedingt angeraten, die Vorlesung über zwei Semester zu besuchen. Kurz vor Semesterende werden die Prüfungsthemen bekannt gegeben. Die Professur stellt zu den Prüfungsthemen Texte als pdf zum Download zur Verfügung. Diese dienen dem vertieften Verständnis der Vorlesung. | Kurzbeschreibung | The acoustic niche connects considerations in space and time. During the semester students will study the soundscape and spatial configurations of the old Botanical Garden in Zurich. The investigations will lead to a multichannel acoustic installation on-site at the “Sonic Topology” Symposium in June 2022. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Lernziel | Through an auralised point cloud model of the botanical garden, the students will be able to reflect our perception of the artificially organic landscape as a digital model in the AV-Lab. We will use the niche theory as a method to experiment together on an acoustic intervention and the interplay with the visual environment of the garden. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Inhalt | The acoustic niche hypothesis, as proposed by Bernie Krause in 1983, describes that the acoustic dimension of the landscape is composed of single organisms that found their niche in frequency or/and time in order to be able to communicate. The human influence with densified cities and their infrastructures make rapid changes in ecology and therefore in the soundscape of our landscapes as well. These changes can be monitored with sound. We will investigate the complex environment in time and space on site by mapping and recording it’s sounds and by laser scanning the space during the workshop weekend. This will give us the possibility to examine our acoustic intervention in a point cloud model in the laboratory environment of the AV-Lab with space for experimentation and serendipity. To be able to present our soundscape at the “Sonic Topology” Symposium and to discuss our sound intervention with experts of the fields of soundart and soundecology is a great opportunity as well. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Inhalt | Das Wahlfach "Topology" im FS 2022 setzt den Schlusspunkt einer Reihe, die sich theoretisch und körperlich mit Landschaft auseinandersetzt. Bisher haben wir uns in Labyrinthen verirrt, haben neue Wege im Abseits geschaffen, sind auf Umwegen gegangen, haben unsere seelischen Covid-Landschaften kartografiert und unsere Körperbewegungen mit denjenigen der Landschaft synchronisiert. Mit dieser Sammlung an Wissen und Erfahrungen lancieren wir das Finale: „Aktion! Landschaft“. Aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven der Wahrnehmung und gestützt durch Beispiele aus Kunst, Literatur und Geschichte begeben wir uns erneut auf ein Terrain, das es durch eigene Gedanken und Handlungen zu formen gilt. Es werden drei Themenblöcken, u.a. zu Fragen der Wahrnehmung, Bewegung, Grenzen angeboten. | Lernziel | The Paul Scherrer Institute is Switzerland’s “Silicon Valley” and enjoys a worldwide reputation for cutting-edge scientific research. For over 30 years, researchers have come to a rural region in the canton of Aargau to take advantage of the institute’s unique opportunities, large facilities and extensive know-how. Surrounded by fields and forests, Switzerland’s most prominent nuclear research institution is embedded in a unique landscape between Villigen and Würenlingen on both sides of the river Aare. The Jurapark Aargau, adjacent to PSI West, is a regional nature park of national importance. Besides being an attractive recreational area for the public, this region represents an extensive habitat for flora and fauna, distinguished by the diversity of its landscapes, rich biodiversity and the uniqueness of its urban structure. Yet, The PSI campus is characterized by a security fence closing its two areas from the surrounding territory. As a result, patchwork urbanization has developed in an uncontrolled way, neglecting the public spaces. In anticipation of the future campus expansion in 2035 with a flow of 3000 coworkers, we will match the knowledge of urban design and large-scale landscapes architecture with contemporary notions of open spaces and gardening to restructure and refine the spatial qualities along the river and create a lively and vibrant campus. Thereby, we will creatively design the waterfront areas with bathing facilities, public gardens and an essential footpath connection across the Aare River as a direct link between the two campus areas. Students are asked to explore new spatial strategies and propose creative interventions towards the design of open space. Along the way, each project will enhance the existing landscape through innovative and conceptual topographic approaches to create vibrant, sustainable, and attractive environments. The methodogogy follows from a combination of continuous research, experimentation and design. Based on dynamic landscape modelling principles developed by the the Chair of Prof. Christophe Girot, the studio will use the facilities of the ETH Landscape Modelling and Visualizing Lab (LVML) to establish a procedural and iterative design approach. There will be workshops on landscape modelling (Rhinoceros3D), generative design methods (Grasshopper) and MR (Mix Reality) to generate 3D landscape models. In addition, a series of lectures, a compulsory weekend site visit, as well as reviews and workbooks will help students attain the landscape design objectives set by this studio. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Inhalt | Based on an individual case study, the students work on the entire workflow of a landscape architectural project. From data collection to 2D and 3D modelling in the Landscape Visualization and Modelling Lab (LVML), analysis and simulation with various software solutions to visualizations and physical prototypes, this course covers the most important digital methods in landscape architecture. The course is divided into three parts: 1. Survey, Analysis 2. Modelling 3. Simulation, Visualization The case study will serve as a synthesis project where the students can apply their acquired skills. During the course, students are supported by an interdisciplinary team in the development of their case study. | Kurzbeschreibung | The Advanced Landscape Architecture Studio of Prof. Christophe Girot will design a linear public space along the Furtbach. | Lernziel | We will work in the Furttal valley situated between Lägern and Altberg in the north-west of the city of Zürich. The plain of the valley was once largely covered by wetlands, a result of the glaciers which formerly covered the Furttal. In the past 15 years, these wetlands have been drained and turned into cultivable land. Today, the region is also very urbanized, though not in the sense of a continuous urbanity but in the form of patches of settlements on both sides of the valley. Consequently, it is difficult to find natural connections along the valley. This situation raises a number of interesting questions: how continuous are those fragmented places? How accessible is the Furtbach? Can we imagine a promenade or a network of pathways along the shore? Can we establish connectivity between the urbanized areas through landscape design? The FS 2022 Design Studio will focus on large-scale design through digital point cloud modeling. In several workshops, students will acquire skills in point cloud and computer modeling, visualisation techniques and CNC prototyping.
