The course will take place in the week 14-18 of June 2020. Registration should be closed on the 14th of May (one month before the start of the course). Remark: former title until FS20: Microfluidics for Microbial Ecology. The 2021 edition of the course will be virtual. The lab activities will be replaced by guided group activity sessions, where experiments will be run virtually and data analyzed.
The course teaches the basics of microfluidic technology and sample a range of applications in microbiology and chemistry, all through hands-on experience and live demos.
Familiarization with the basics of microfluidics and with some applications of this technology in microbiology and chemistry.
Physics of fluid transport at small scales, design and fabrication of microfluidic devices, set up of a typical microfluidic experiment, flow visualization, image acquisition and analysis, examples of microfluidics studies of chemistry, optofluidic, microbial growth, motility, chemotaxis and interactions among microbes.
